C.Wright Mills

Introduction

Charles Wright Mills who was born on august 28 1916 was an American sociologist. Mills is remembered till date for his excellence and his work in the field of sociology. His book the Sociological Imagination is still an interest for the people who are interested in society and giving something back to it. Wright did his part of the work in the power and Class. It was Wright who was very much concerned about the responsibilities of intellectuals in post-World War II society, advocated public and political engagement over uninterested observation.

Wright thought that it was the general public who had accepted to live with the capitalist system and had got in to negotiation terms with it. According to him the capitalist system was not all applicable t human rights and had to be abolished straight away. He believed that there is a certain class in the American society which is actually responsible for feeding the entire citizens of the US.

Wright once in his articles wrote that it is the man who takes the decisions of whatever he does and decides under what sort of cirmstances he has to live. He thought that the decision making right is an authority given to a specific group of people only and those people are actually known to be the ones in power. He defines power as simply the probability that men will act as another man wishes. He thought that people are rational entities and they make decisions' to make other happy because of fear, rational calculation, and lack of energy, loyalty and different motives. The main contribution of Wright to the field of sociology is that he brought different elements that acted together or separately but would comprise of the entire American System. The work of Wright is very much similar to the work of Karl Marx and Max Weber. All of them thought that the society had to be given something to make it look more peaceful, they all stressed upon the comfort and relief of the people. Like Max Weber, Wright has also looked at the relationship between the individual and the society and the overall problems and reliefs related to it.
