Cannabis Effects on Mental Health

Introduction:

Today, there is a substantial amount of propaganda of junk science and misinformation about cannabis use by both supporters of cannabis and its opponents. There are also legal constraints and policy research related to cannabis. Although many studies involving cannabis are contradictory, some health effects on the body and mind have been determined. This article uses a variety of credible sources, mainly articles from international medical journals with referees but also of scientific reports, books, websites and magazines, to establish a clear overview of documented associated with the cannabis use.

Discussion:

Cannabis is native to tropical and temperate zones, but is cultivated around the world. Today, the illegal exploitation of marijuana use sophisticated methods to obtain a product of considerable power. People with a medical exemption from health departments of world can now grow their own marijuana or can use it by purchasing it.

Marijuana consists of the dried leaves and buds of the cannabis plant and may contain bits of stem and seeds and its color varies from grayish green to greenish brown. Hashish is the dried resin and compressed flowers of cannabis; its color varies from brown to black. It is sold in blocks. We obtain cannabis oil by boiling the flowers or cannabis resin in an organic solvent. Then it is allowed to evaporate the mixture until a sticky liquid, reddish-brown or greenish. The THC content of each form of cannabis varies, but the hashish is higher than that of marijuana, and that of cannabis oil is the highest of all. (Hillig & Karl, 2005, pp. 161-180)

Marijuana, hashish or hashish oil is sometimes mixed with tobacco and most often hand-rolled into a cigarette called a "joint", or smoked in a pipe. It incorporates some cannabis to foods such as brownies, or a drink.

History of Cannabis

Cannabis plant known since ancient times by man is now the center of debate over its legalization for medical use. Human beings always used his surroundings to make best use of it without the legal connotations, ideological or ethical which today we tend to appreciate what surrounds us to decide whether something we like or not or whether we benefit or harm.

From the observation of nature and knowledge based on experience, plants have always been the basis of the universal medicine and its use as healing, magical or religious.

There is no doubt that scientific progress has brought an extraordinary opportunity for knowledge in the effective treatment of many diseases and has contributed to the eradication of some of them, but when health benefits are discovered from substances or plants from which there is an opinion unanimously, this is the case of cannabis, the negative effects of their use are well documented, but also some benefits for patients whose medical condition is very hard and only found relief from their symptoms in this plant.
