CASE STUDIES IN COMMUNITY POLICE

Introduction

The book namely “Case Studies in community policing” is a great piece of art, which has been written by Dennis Stevens. Even though the variety of the sections is appealing, however, the divergent sties of the tile used by Dennis Stevens could be a huge flaw. A few of the sections are purely educational in their nature, but a few of them are sense pieces, and a few of them are more like the expert studies rather than the chapters of a book. In this fashion, the different sections are in a way are lacking the consistency and are properly connected with each other. These things cannot be called defects, however; these factors create questions about the audience of the book. Is the title suitable for the police officers, criminal justice students, criminologists, the public, or everyone? Everyone who reads this book will find some value in this book; however, a few chapters will be much more relevant as compared to other chapters for a given reader. Beginning in the late 1970's, a body of community policing literature has emerged providing the basis for the theoretical underpinnings of its implementation. However, few scholars have conducted empirically based studies that allow for the comparison of differences in community policing implementation across agencies. This work by Dennis Stevens is a wonderful piece in the literature of English literature, and has provided a brief overview of the concept of community policing and the perception of community policing in the mind of public.

Discussion and summary of chapter 7 “Sacramento police department, Sacramento, California”

“Case studies in community policing” is a book written by Dennis J. Stevens, he has analyzed the performance of the police in a number of areas. This inventive book analyzes the experience of nine miscellaneous police agencies of different sizes across U.S.A., as they enforce, be successful and be unsuccessful, and enforce again or try to attain a community policing approach to safety of the public. Unlike other books on this subject, which are filled with police imagery or academic icons, this book focuses on "real" community policing activities of "real" police departments, documenting what works and what have not worked, and, equally important, "why" it did not work.

This book covers the community policing programs in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Nashville, Tennessee; Columbus, Ohio; Lansing, Michigan; Harris County, Texas; Sacramento, California; Fayetteville, North Carolina; ...
