Statement of the Problem

The case presents the topic of the change in employee's attitude and behavior with the change of the organization. There is a girl, named Catherine O'Neill, who first got the job of her dream, but after few years, she had to change the organization in order to cope up with her marital life. The environment of the new organization was not a suitable one for her as per her personality. The place where she worked before had a very formal and professional environment. The new place environment was a bit informal and not very professional. Therefore, she was not feeling comfortable in the new environment and she had got difficulties in adjusting there. Therefore, we found out that the cause of the problem is that the norms of her past and present job are different. She is not satisfied in the company that she is currently employed due to lack of feeling of belongingness and work environment.

Analysis and Evaluation

Catherine O'Neill, graduated from Flagship University, applied in an accounting firm job on Lippert-Johnson Incorporated (LJI). She appreciated the company's environment as well as their treatment professionally and personally. Catherine was also involved in LJI activities outside work which she enjoyed and felt the warmth of welcoming colleagues. She is also attending the meetings of the AICPA and other professional accounting societies. Over the past seven years, Catherine's career in New York has been well and regarded her as the one of the top tax accountants in their company. However, Catherine went away in the company because she is having a family. She was getting married with a person, Ted Lewis, who was an oncology intern, who had to accept the offer of residency at a top cancer center in upstate New York (McShane & Von Glinow, 2009).

As she wanted to support her husband with his career opportunity, she admitted that it was the right time to follow the path of many of her colleagues as leaving her career to start a family. Therefore, she left public accounting and accepted a position that was more conducive for starting a family. Still, her heart was in the profession, so she took a position as a controller of a small recycling company located a few miles from Catherine and Ted's new upstate New York home. She knew that with this position she could have children as well as she could maintain her career. For that reason, she needs to find a job that can balance her time to her family and work that came to the point and left the accounting firm.

She found a job, Fenway Waste Management. It is not a big company with 25 people who work in the ware house, 3 administrative assistants, 2 supervisors, and 5 people in management.
