 In “The Cask of Amontillado,” Edgar Allan Poe uses irony to develop his theme of a man who seeks salvation through repression.

Edgar Allan Poe (USA, 1809-1849) Romantic writer, a genius of terror and suspense, able to delve into the darker motivations of his characters, write a story of revenge in his story "The Cask of Amontillado ', in which the narrator has as fifty years ago took revenge on his friend Fortunato, for having insulted. In "Cask of Amontillado”, Montresor seeks for revenge. Gothic Poe's story may escort readers to judge that Montresor evil along with cunningness. Montresor's plan was only looking for revenge, with exemption from punishment. Montresor Fortunato does not explain why it is worth. The only clue that Montresor gives Fortunato makes him "a thousand cuts “to "dare to offend”.
