Child Labor

Child Labor

Despite abundant literature on child labor in developing countries, including projects to reduce its intensity, some papers have studied the consequences of child labor on health. The relationship between child labor and education has been widely explored.1 children who both work and go to school can be overloaded and the deterioration in the health sector. However, insofar as money protects health and child labor increases the family income, child labor can benefit the health of some children in the household. Therefore, a child labor has a priori an ambiguous effect on health. Politicians who focus on reducing the prevalence of child labor in the developing world clearly need a better understanding of this effect and its magnitude. Many proposals have been advanced to promote the welfare of children who work or reduce the incidence and consequences of child labor (Davies, 2005). While at the national level, various policies ranging from the prohibition of child labor to food for education programs are available, all the instruments at the international level are much more limited. With increasing growth and loosens the constraint of demand, more and more families are taking the opportunity to send their children to work. The probability of employment increases girl from 0.02 to 0.103 and that of employment boy from 0.028 to 0.033. It would require a considerable increase in growth to raise incomes enough to reduce the production of child labor. This can perhaps be seen from the fact that the NDP would increase the employment of children.
