Scope and Nature of the Problem

Obesity in children is a growing global problem. The problem has become so alarming that several international organizations studying the issue very seriously, including the World Health Organization. According to this, measures must be taken immediately to combat this epidemic and its impact (Kopelman, 2005).

Modified Claim

In order to combat the epidemic of obesity in children, it is important to develop an understanding of the root causes behind this obesity. Such understanding will allow us to undertake counter measures and prevent/stop the spread of this disease in the children globally.

Rationale

The rising figure of obesity related problems has attracted serious concerns from massive levels especially the experts who understand the gravity of the situation.

Data Collection Strategy

This research will be entirely based upon qualitative study. It mainly involves literature review related to the subject. Number of secondary sources will be employed including journals, articles, internet publications, books, etc. However, data has been extracted largely from journals and articles. Secondary sources include all that can be categorized as non human. Therefore, no human subjects will be involved in the study process for this research.

Preliminary Findings

Many factors contributed to the problem of obesity in children. Obesity-prone family is one of them. This may be partly genetic, but this problem is mostly related to lifestyle. Most children are not active enough and they do not feed properly. It is estimated that one quarter of children are overweight and that two thirds of school-age children are not getting enough exercise so that their development is done optimally.
