Discussion

The first thing when fighting childhood obesity and schools is to stop pointing fingers. In fact, if the parent want to point fingers turn it all around yourself. The Parent must understand that it is the job of the parent to determine what the child eats. Instead of giving your money to buy pizza kids, hamburgers, sodas and sweets, the parent should be packing a lunch for them (Skouteris, McCabe, Swinburn & Hill, 2010). The food choices should be: whole wheat products, vegetables, fruits, lean meats, beans and low fat dairy products. An example of a meal would be acceptable: a turkey sandwich, an apple, carrot sticks and string cheese. Also keep things like frozen foods and sodas out of your home. If the child is not used to eating these things, then they will not be used to eat at school. Also, the parent should encourage the child to engage in the sport. Register for the sport they want so they can exercise. This is a huge problem in today's world, because many African American middle school girls play video games every day. Remember that childhood obesity and schools do not have to go hand in hand (O'Connor, 2011). The Parent have control of your child by staying on track or reverse bad habits immediately.
