Introduction

The age in which we are living today is constantly updating and facing an immense advancement in technology and methodologies to perform various processes. That is why it is imperative for very profession to stay abreast of latest technologies and methodologies not only to provide a better product or service but also to achieve competition and to deal with the rivalry in the industry. In order to achieve this objective research plays an indispensable role. No matter what the field is whether it is the field of education, business, and engineering or medical the role that research plays in these fields is imperative for the growth of the field. For that purpose, it is significant to impart best possible knowledge to students about research. The core aim of research is to provide information. To obtain information we adopt various methods and techniques. Information can be obtained in various ways. When we adopt a systematic approach of acquiring information it is called research. The objective of this paper is to explore one particular type of research in detail and discuss its variegated perspectives.

Chosen Research Method

The above discussion shows that there are several methods to conduct a research process but this paper would be discussing focus group technique in detail. A focus group technique is the part of qualitative research method.

Literature Review (Focus Group)

Focus group is a sort of in- depth interview of different individuals. In this method, around six to twelve people can participate. The word focus suggest that views, ideas, notions, perspective and responses of participants are gauged first by specifically interrogating very focused question and in secondly the participants are being focused in certain characteristics that relate to the topic of interest. In this interview there is a facilitator who facilitates interrogation of focused questions (Smith & Williams, 2007).

Overview of the Focus Group

The focus group is a detection technique for social research. Focus group is based on discussion that takes place among a small group of people, invited by one or more moderators to talk to each other in depth about the topic that is under investigation.

Its main feature is the ability to recreate a situation similar to the ordinary process of opinion forming which in turn allows participants to express themselves through a customary form of communication. The actors define their position on the issue confronting other people, while the researcher may limit its influence on their answers and opinions. Despite its unique advantages, the focus group is still underutilized and not well known in social scientific research. Focus group is a research technique applicable in a soft approach to evaluation. The type of this research is qualitative. It is used when it seems appropriate to use. The focus group study provides judgments, opinions, expressed by professionals, experts, and users/clients, to gather different points of view on a topic, a process, a result, a product in a broad sense (Jones, 2000).
