ABSTRACT

The President of the United States had highlighted the need for organizations to change the way they manage their business. As the following observations indicate, the business of people management is of paramount importance for the health and wealth of the organization and same is the case with the students in the country; as they need to develop themselves to the fullest, so that they can meet the needs of the workforce. The projected gaps between available labor and labor needs underscore the importance of cultivating a skilled and committed workforce. It can be argued that these societal forces may also affect an individual's job satisfaction and a manager's issues-that-need-to-be-addressed priority list. Career development is a formal, continual, and concentrated focus of an organization to develop and strengthen skills proficiencies of existing resources in order to meet organizational needs and accomplish the career goals of employees. The major aim of this dissertation is to analyze the CITO (Capabilities, Interest, Techniques, and Opportunities) theory and the impact of the various factors of this theory on the career development of an individual. The results of this dissertation have shown the capabilities, interest, and techniques are the internal factors that affect the career development of an individual. While, on the other hand, opportunities are the external factor that could make an impact on the career development on an individual.
