Argumentative Essay on Clash of Civilizations

Introduction

Samuel Huntington, who is a professor at Harvard University of political sciences, wrote an article in 1993 titled “The Clash of Civilization.” The article was published in the journal titled “Foreign Affairs.” This article eventually became the base of a book by the same writer titled, “The Clash of civilizations and the Remaking of the World Order.” This article had a determined object and aim which was to offer a theoretical structure for the interpretation of the conflicts which have erupted since the start of the 20th century. The article also predicted the conflicts which according to the author will possibly come.

According to Huntington, after the end of the cold war, the world has entered a non-ideological period and the state-nation roles are becoming less significant with time. Therefore, according to the author there will be clashes amongst the civilization in the future. The main reason for the conflicts is culture and religion especially. The views and opinions of Huntington have been challenged by many scholars yet have also gained immense popularity around the world. Furthermore, one must acknowledge that the "clash of civilizations" is a relatively simple theory to explicate the ins and outs of international politics.

That supposition is relatively reliable because, effectively, the federation of individuals into ethno-national groups, due to tribalism in the wake of the disintegration of political unity, deeply influences world politics.

According to Huntington, Islam has borders. The perception of Huntington regarding his Islamic borders' civilizations echoes the practices of conflicting sources on the ground. Huntington emphasizes on the Muslims and Christians population conflicts like the Balkans. Moreover, he also argues about the civilization of Islam seeking military cooperation with China for instance. This is majorly because of the reaction of anti-western which creates a “Confucian-Islamic connection”. Consequently, western countries ought to provide protection for themselves because of the establishments of fortification in the "torn-countries", like Turkey, which is situated on a fault line which separates the two civilizations. Moreover, the countries in the west must collaborate with the civilizations they are friendly with like the civilization of Latin-American, and endeavor to destabilize opposing civilizations according to the balance-of-power.
