Should the US use more clean-energy sources?

Should the US use more clean-energy sources?

Introduction

This paper will be discussing the use of clean-energy sources. The argument in this paper discussed supports the alternative energy sources, i.e. U.S. should use more clean energy sources. Furthermore it will discuss how clean-energy sources would help towards the problems caused by population released if the primary energy sources are to be used instead.

Background Information

The Federal government is still analyzing the pros and cons of various options when it comes to national energy policy. The fossil fuels currently satisfy 84% of US energy demand. It indicates the heavy dependence of US on fossil fuels. It suggests that the fossil fuels will likely continue their dominance in the coming years. However, various environmental and cost factors push USA to shift towards the renewable technology (Cassedy & Grossman, 1998).

In today's advanced world through advanced technologies and scientific enhancement, there are several facilities available to generate renewable energy. There are several different types of renewable energy sources currently available (while some are still in their development phases). Wind energy resource is one of the main capable renewable energy resources which are left to produce sufficient electricity looking at its high continuous demand in the world wide scale. This wind energy generates electricity after utilizing enough flows of air to activate the wind turbines (Toman, 2008). During high wind flow, expenditure based, wind energy is compared to that electricity generated from fossil substitutes mainly for the economic and environmental issues are considered.

Arguments on One Side

Today scientists try to encourage use of alternative energy instead of fossil fuels because their combustion produces air pollution and contributes to the increase in global temperature. In addition, forecasts of scientists predict that these fuels will run out within a century. For these reasons scientist prefer to utilize renewable energy as alternative energy sources, so called because they are made from natural raw materials (sun, water, wind, wood, geothermal) which are formed and renewed continuously and the energy generated from them are unlimited. It will be a huge achievement if scientists are allowed to produce energy without polluting the environment or destroy the planet's natural resources (Pfeiffer, 2006).

The use of renewable energy is still limited by the low efficiency and much higher costs than fossil fuels to build industries that produce this type of energy. The heat from the sun can be used to ...
