Part 1: Coaching and how it works?

Introduction

If you survey a group of CEOs and executives and ask them what their most important asset is that say, "People." (PD, 2001) If one were to ask the same panel of leaders so the only thing they lack in your organization's response would probably be "trained and developed." While many organizations spend countless dollars in training, seminars and development courses, others tend to leave this important issue of human resources at random. Is it possible to create that synergy within an organization's leaders seldom seen outside the organization for promotion? Is it possible for an organization to improve its human resource development and identify a substantial contribution to overall business success of that organization? (Jenny, 2008)

In "Leadership and Organization Development Journal, Jeffery M. Wachtel & David J. Veale conducted a study and held Coca-Cola is a company that is completely convinced that this is possible. Coca-Cola believes that using coaching and mentoring to strengthen the link between development and business strategy is the key to creating a healthy environment and struggling business model. (Patrick, 2007)

The company views coaching as a tool to improve performance directly, it is mentoring, as the achievement of its objectives primarily through building relationships. Coca-Cola has identified five types of coaching that also understands that there is considerable overlap between them.

Increasing Coaching and Mentoring in the workplace:

The current trend

Coaching and mentoring either at an executive level or by the staff in general, is increasingly recognized as an important employee development process. (Linda, 2001) Recognized by senior management in many organizations that your company will prosper if they provide some guidance and mentoring to their staff.

We are especially aware of how much this trend of coaching and mentoring has grown in the United Kingdom because it is where most of our customers are based. We work with companies that automatically assign a mentor for new employees, some employees left to find a coach for them, some who are unwilling or unable to see the advantage of having coaches for his people and almost everything else.

Fortunately, many more companies are giving their people an understanding of the benefits of coaching and mentoring, of which there are many, and more people are training and skills acquisition in the coaching and mentoring than ever.
