The research question of this study is how college student alcohol consumption and coffee consumption affect each other? It is highly observed that college students consume coffee and alcohol largely, which may have health hazards. Therefore this study is designed to research regarding this question and testing the related hypotheses.

A college student's life is largely characterized by microwave dinners, all nighters, 10-page papers, crazy parties, alcohol, and coffee as well. Where coffee and alcohol are two factors that facilitate nightlife of a college student; alcohol is used in recreational ways and coffee is used for academic purposes. While the negative effects of alcohol are very much publicized, caffeine's are normally less known. However, the reality is that if coffee is consumed in excess then it can also be very harmful for the body. Though there are some positive effects attributed with the consumption of caffeine, yet students must be watchful of their intake before the encounter any unexpected or unwanted symptoms (Vera, 2012). Coffee is a stimulant that excites the nerve cells of brain but on the other hand it can cause headache or other pain if students have become used to the caffeine. Further, it has also become known as the cause of various stomach reactions like bowel movement and gas (Vera, 2012). Thus, college students consume coffee to energies their mind and body, however, the habit of taking it may cause addiction to caffeine which results in headaches or stomach reactions.

As far as alcohol is concerned, college students consume alcohol in recreational ways, where, there are some very unhealthy effects attached with alcohol used by college students including health, educational, psychological, interpersonal and behavioral consequences. Research studies indicate strong relation between alcohol usage and self-reported academic issues (Dowdall & Wechsler, 2002). Further, research points out that in 2005 around 12.3% of full-time college students met the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for alcohol abuse and 7.7% met the criteria for alcohol dependence (http://cspinet.org). The sexual assault cases in college are also mostly attributed with alcohol usage, and the underage college students often did something they regretted (http://cspinet.org). Thus, alcohol usage effects very negatively on college student's educational as well as personal life. Where the combine effects of both coffee and alcohol consumption on college student are also find out to be negative in fact deadly. Research do not illustrate fully how they both are toxic together, however, studies do indicate that their combination seems to impair a judgment of drinker more than drinking alcohol alone, which is regard by some researchers as 'toxic jock syndrome' (Shrieves, 2010). It is also indicated that some user also show higher incidents of risk taking behaviors as their perceptions of their limitations are vague.
