Introduction

Communication is defined as the exchanging and sharing of meaningful information, ideas, and thoughts between the individuals or among the group of individuals or among various elements of an organization. In an organization, the communication plays its important role. It plays its fundamental role in achieving the organizational objectives. The good and healthy internal communication systems are the key to organizational success. Effective communication is the essential feature of management and it is important for the managers in order to conduct effectively the planning, organizing, leading and controlling. The effective communication systems ensure the adequate flow of information throughout the organizational departments that assists the managers in performing their duties efficiently. Through proper communication systems, the essential information is timely communicated to the managers and this helps the managers in planning and organizing the situations accurately and helps them to implement them in the right manner. It also helps the managers in managing the employees and subordinates in effective manner. When there is proper communication among the employees and the managers, the achievements of goals become easy. If there is not proper communication among the managers and the subordinates, the controlling aspect of the management cannot be effective.

It has been found that in our organization, there is lack of proper communication among the departmental units. To make the communication effective among all the organizational units is the responsibility of the human resource departments. It is their responsibility to track the problems in the communication that creates negative impact upon the employee productivity. The following section describes the importance of communication, the effects and impacts of barrier of communication upon the organizational success and also the suggestions in overcoming these barriers in our organization.

Importance of communication in an organization

In an organization, it is necessary that the communication must flow freely without any barriers among the employees, managers as well as among all the departmental units in order to achieve the collective organizational goals and to ensure the success of the organization. Form the various research studies; it has been found that effective internal communication has significant upon three organizational elements which involves decision making, interdepartmental coordination and team information. The timely and accurate information at all the management levels helps the managers in making quality decisions. The adequate flow of information among all the departmental units helps in coordinating the departmental efforts and allows them to work in smooth manner. Effective communication also has significant impact upon the team efforts because when all the members are aware of the organizational activities, it creates the sense of motivation in them to work together in an effective manner for the success of team efforts.
