Introduction

The progress towards the framework of community policing has been thrusting with augmented force ever since its introduction by Robert Trojanowicz and Bonnie Bucqueroux. Police in collaboration with community leaders have been dynamically involved in deriving more effective ways and procedures to promote public safety and to improvise the quality of life of people. Community policing refers to the collection of practical and philosophical approaches that institute a framework of strategies depending on the needs and responses of communities involved, in order to enhance the generalized law institution in community. However certain fundamental doctrines and contemplations are common to all community policing tactics.

Discussion

Conventionally, the police organizations have often responded to the offenses after it takes place and hence there institutional frameworks are designed to advocate rapid response to emergency situations , routine patrol and arrests. However community policing calls for far more better, thoughtful and strategic incorporation of all the dimensions of police business. It focuses the proactive deterrence of disorder and crime (Dölling and Feltes, 1993).

Routine Patrol

Community policing promotes the ideas for the premeditated implementation of routine patrol which is carried out with the intention of achieving desired results rather that just carrying out the daily patrol because “that is what police is supposed to do and has been doing it ever since the beginning”. Firstly desired outcomes should be analyzed depending on the prevailing conditions and then procedures should be implemented in accordance with the strategies that can give maximum output. Being proactive in hot spot areas and patrolling regularly to avoid any mishap is another principal that belongs to community policing.
