Introduction

In this paper the subjects to discuss are newspaper articles and scenarios given in season two, episode five of Pearson Health Science Neighborhood within the section of course materials of Phoenix University Website for students. A fire began in the Neighborhood community and the inhabitants developed respiratory problems linked with the smoke. The fire is not contained even after five days (Pearson health science, 2011). The community needs an emergency preparedness and response plan. Local, state, and national public health agencies like FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), the Red Cross,and state and local EMS should have participated in this emergency situation.

Discussion

Summary of Event

Neighborhood is a community situated along the bank of the river near a forest and has a total population of 64,200 inhabitants. A fire in the forest has been rampant for 5 days and is approaching the Neighborhood town, annihilating several acres of land.

Fire fighters are struggling for obtaining control on the forest fire, while the workers of healthcare are struggling and battling for maintaining the residents to keep breathing. The seniors are coming to the senior center clinic with breathing problems, and the hospital is overcrowded with patients with breathing issues. The hospital has shortage of staffs and the quality of care is law. The city executives are influencing the residents to reside in the house and avoid going out if it is not essential to come out, because winds are blowing up the smoke from the fire in the direction of the meighborhood. The air's smoky state is disturbing all residents; however, people in the neighborhood having pre-existing issues with their lungs are the ones who suffer the most. The officials have even recommended that when the forest fire approaches the neighborhood they would notify the people about the preparation (Pearson Health Science, 2011).

Within the family of Bley, both Cecilia (Jimmy's wife) and Jimmy himself are suffering from numerous health problems and are currently in their 70s. Jimmy is suffering from hearing loss and emphysema, whereas his wife Cecilia is suffering from osteoarthritis. As Jimmy is informed by his wife regarding the dryer's breakdown, he seems to be determined for going to the shop for buying the required spare parts needed to repair the machine. Nonetheless, Jimmy is aware that he must wait for the smoke in the air to settle prior to his exit from his house, although Cecilia greatly desires the repair of the machine. For finishing the laundry, she has been taken to the Laundromat by their children who visited their place.

The science fair that is held each year, is being hosted by the Middle School this year. Above fifty school children are taking part in this fair along with their projects. The students who get selected would then get an opportunity for going to higher level nationwide, statewide or regional science-fairs (Pearson health science, 2011).
