“Journey” is the main theme in Robert Frost's in “The Road Not Taken”, and Jean Rhys's “I Used to Live Here Once”. Although, the three authors used the same theme of “Journey”, but all of them treated it differently in their work; each of them has presented a significant life changing journey (Bloom, 2002). There are several aspects of these works, but the one thing these literary pieces share are the de-motivating hardships and hurdles the protagonists had to face. The Road Not Taken and I Used to Live Here Once have diverse characters, historical background, and the use of symbolism; however, as mentioned earlier they share the same theme of journey. Frost “The Road Not Taken “is a poem, Rhys's “I Used to Live Here Once” is a short story.

Journey has diverse connotation for different people. Numerous people think of journey just as expanse they have passed through, whilst they overlook that there can be extraordinary significance ahead of every step taken. People often neglect the importance of the journey I their pursuit of destination. The elation and thrill of unpredictable expedition helps travelers in uncovering and realizing their positive and negative aspects that will assist them for life. The utmost power of changing an individual's point of views, and motions, which could change the person's whole existence, is held by the Journey (Doyle, 2010). Several poets and writers used voyage for the depiction of their characters' personal development. In this paper compare and contrasts Robert Frost's “The Road Not Taken”, and Jean Rhys's “I Used to Live Here Once”.

Robert Frost, as well as Jean Rhys, exhibits their viewpoint concerning the voyage in their writings. Both classified the passage in contrasting perspective, by utilizing the theme of journey differently. In the poem, “The Road Not Taken”, Robert Frost skillfully the choices people make in their lives, and the impact of those choices in their lives. Through this poem, Frost demonstrates the impact of today's decision on tomorrow. Poem, in addition shows that when populace, arrive at a position where they have the option to chose, at that moment it that the person has to decide which path is right and would be beneficial to follow for the future(Fagan, 2007). It is up to the individual whether to enjoy now and suffer later or face the hardships now and rejoice later.

This one decision seems to be tough on that time and nearly impossible to go back upon. Therefore, in the end people become what they opt for through the decisions they made earlier in their lives.
