Topic of Research

The main topic of the research is the comparison of outcomes for alcohol and drug abuse clients. This is basically based on the 6-month follow-up of clients who completed a residential treatment program. This study will be focused on the impact of in-patient addiction treatment program on the client-related treatment outcomes. The topic is based on the issue that whether there is any moderation of client6-related treatment outcomes with the addiction type. The four addiction types will be mentioned including (1) alcohol only, (2) cocaine with other substances, (3), prescription drugs and/or cannabis, and (4) cocaine only or with alcohol. The topic is related to the substance use and drugs addiction. Substance abuse is also known as drug abuse which is a pattern of the usage of any kind of drugs or alcohol which makes a user dependent on its use for survival. This term has different definitions in different contexts but primarily refers to negativity of the use of drugs. The drugs that are often associated with substance abuse include alcohol, “barbiturates”, “amphetamines” and “methaqualone”.

The drugs usage includes different adverse effects including the social, psychological and physical effects, and it also gives rise to the criminal penalty at times but it is dependant on the local laws prevailaing in the country. The drug and alcohol misuse is also termed as the substance abuse. The completion of substance abuse treatment has been found to be a proximal indicator of positive treatment outcomes.

Research Question

What is the impact of an in-patient addiction treatment program and whether client-related treatment outcomes were moderated by addiction type: (1) alcohol only, (2) cocaine with other substances, (3), prescription drugs and/or cannabis, and (4) cocaine only or with alcohol.

Method of Data Collection

In order to conduct research on the comparison of outcomes for alcohol and drug abuse clients different sources of data collection will be used including the online libraries like University of Wales. Different other sources will also be used to gather the data incluing the different articles, magazines, online databases and the books. One more important soruce which will be used to gather the data about comparison of outcomes for alcohol and drug abuse clients will be the medical magazines. Thus, these sources will be very beneficial and supportive in order to make the comparison between outcomes for alcohol and drug abuse clients. However, while using the data from the above sources, it is necessary that the data should have proper referencing in order to assure its validity and reliability (Comfort, 2003).
