Abstract

In a road network one of the most vital components are the road junctions. Nonetheless, these junctions are normally not unequivocally designed in on hand road expansion approaches. Within this study, the junctions of the roads are represented in a detailed manner like objects of an area and a method is suggested for the junction's extraction (automatically) by utilizing the geo-spatial data base already on hand. Before information retrieved from geospatial database that is topo-graphic that is utilized in facilitating its extraction, an alternative approach that is snake-based is suggested, this is an approach, which utilizes the concept of “Zip-lock snake”, whose peripheral force is an amalgamation of the balloon force and of the GVF (Gradient Vector force) for delineating the borders of the junctions. The results of the road arm extraction offer permanent conditions of the boundary of the suggested snake. This method got tested through aerial white-and-black DMC (Digital Mapping Camera) ortho-images with a 0.1 ground resolution captured from suburban and rural areas. The findings that got discovered depicted the confirmation of this method.
