Computer Science Studies: A Student's Challenge

Introduction

The study of computers and computing is generally known as computer sciences. It is mostly abbreviated as CS and encompasses the mathematical and scientific approach to computation. The design of computing machines as well as the processes and softwares involved are all part of computer science studies. A person who specializes in the working and theory of computers and computation is known as a computer scientist (Tucker, 2004).

Over the last century, computers have taken over the entire world and almost every operation that takes place in this world. Every business, every industry and every country relies heavily on computed operations to operate successfully. Computers have freed the world from papers and heavy files. Today, the top businesses of the world and some of the biggest organizations have all of their operations and processes computerized to maximize output and efficiency and reduce errors and processing time.

Discussion

The study of computing was established as an academic discipline in the late 1950s. The first computer science degree of the world was given in the year 1953 in the University of Cambridge's Computer Laboratory. It was known as the Cambridge Diploma in Computer Sciences. In the USA, the first program to offer academic degrees in computer sciences was started at the Purdue University in 1962.

George Forsythe was the first scientist to coin the term 'Computer Science' in the year 1961. Over the years it has been noted that many aspects of 'computer sciences' do not focus on the study of computers. There are many fields of computer sciences that focus on the study of computing techniques rather than computers. This has led to the formation of alternative names such as 'computing sciences' and datalogy sciences. The term datalogy was first coined by Peter ...
