Introduction

This paper summarizes the four presentations and an article related to advanced concrete technologies.

Stay-In-Place Formwork: ………………..

The presentation discusses the various needs for using concrete instead of wood for constructions. The most recent versions of SIP systems, system developers and architects enjoy the benefits of composite materials. The projects dealing with the PVC panels make efficient use of SIP systems. Also, the SIP systems can be applied to the panels of other materials such as galvanized coil sheet steel and carbon thins shell. The available alternatives of SIP systems are Octafom wall systems for building construction, AMICO Stay-form for multi-pose construction or Carbon Shell System (CSS) for bridge construction, depending on the specific project requirements.

The Octaform Wall System provides the solution for commercial and multi floor residential constructions. The system consists of the PVC panels, connectors and strengtheners. The fire resistant protective sheet is made up of the materials such as contains the concrete, reinforcing steel and insulation. The major characteristics of this system are cost and energy efficiency, versatility, user friendliness and quick installation.

The AMICO stay form can be efficiently used for bulkheads, pile caps, grade beams, blindside walls, bridge applications. The main characteristics of this system are cost efficiency, lighter weight than ply wood, and quick installation.

The Carbon Shell Systems (CSS) are developed using lightweight carbon fiber reinforced

polymers (CFRPs). This system provide with temporary formwork for constructing concrete

girders and columns. Major characteristic of this system include cost efficiency, and lighter weight.

PRECAST CONCRETE TECHNOLOGIES

Precast concrete is an a ancient type of construction material, used by the Romans for building the complex network of aqueducts, culverts, and tunnels. It is a traditional construction material (BIBM, 2012).

This type of concrete is installed on-site. There is a wide range available for the precast concrete, varying in cost and functions. Precast concrete offer various benefits to the construction such as, modularity, customizability, flexibility, durability, sustainability, energy efficiency, affordability, security, and low maintenance cost.

Precast concrete can be site-cast or plant-cast. The site-cast units are precast at a job site, and construction cranes are used for lifting and tilting. The site-cast units do not have size restrictions, but the disadvantages of these units include high curing time depending on the weather conditions. The Plant-cast units reduce the affect of weather conditions on development, as these are developed in the factories. The plant-cast units are more cost efficient and user friendly ...
