The issue would be considered under the verbal contract law. Joseph's grandfather promised his grandson that if his attitudes and behaviors are disciplined enough in the future, he would pay Joseph an amount of twenty thousand dollars. This may be a promise but it binds Joseph's grandfather in to a verbal contract with his grandson. There are however some conditions associated with the contract as well.
