Introduction

Prison is a place of detention where there are individuals who have broken the rules of society /law. It aims to incarcerate them to reintegrate into society once their punishment ends. The prison has very bad living conditions like overcrowding, insecurity, lack of hygiene etc. The prison or jail usually is an institution authorized by the government. It is the place where prisoners are incarcerated. The goal of prisons is to protect society from dangerous elements, detain those who commit acts contrary to law, re-educate the prisoner for insertion into society and prevent defendants.

Discussion

The prison administrator has the responsibility to plan, systematize, put into practice, and act in the Correction's division. The duty of prison administrator is to keep an eye on their sub ordinates and makes sure that the policy, rules, and principles etc are properly implemented or not. Prison administrator solely takes hiring, promotion, transferring or terminating decisions of his department employees. He is responsible for all the daily operations, supervision or training of his correctional staff. Prison administrators can start working like a correctional officer, and once they get more experience and education they go in the higher positions.

The duties and function of prison administrators is to manage and organize the budget of prison, supervise the security. He is responsible for managing the rehabilitation programs, give training to the correctional staff; cope up with the daily affairs of the prison. Prison administrators may deal with the media and the public when needed. In prison because of violent and criminal record prisoners present that is the reason the security conditions are unpredictable. (Osterburg, 20)

Prison administrator's responsibility is to protect the safety and security of the staff. An officer or correctional officer is responsible for supervising inmates and maintain order within a prison or other place of, but also in their outputs (hospital, courthouse, etc.). The correction officer has to make recommendations on appropriate assessment activities. He has to participate in an intervention plan for rehabilitation, support, and follow up plan with the detainee. He should observe and record the behavior of inmates that increases the security within the institution and prevent problems.

He should participate effectively in crisis management. The correctional officer has the responsibility to supervise, and provide security and safety to the prisoners.
