Could work be made more satisfying and participatory?

Abstract

In this paper, it presents a more critical perspective on work reform. First, it introduces the goals and motivations for work reform, from the employer and the worker perspective. In the second part, it analyzes the roles of management, unions, and the state playing in shaping workplaces, since they will affect important decisions about goals, structure, personnel and technology. And then it will construe how to reorganize work more satisfying participatory and whether the goals of humanistic work-reform can be reconciled with the goals of productivity and profit, due to a fair pay and remuneration system and good leadership management. In the last part, it will provide the most useful insights on the prospects or lack thereof, for work-reform by theoretical perspectives including feminist and human relations perspectives, illuminating that the work reform should rely heavily on trust and conformity, careful recruitment and effective training of employees, as well as good supervision and communications (Weiss & Cropanzano, 1996).
