Crime and PTSD

Introduction

PTSD is a situation faced by a person who has gone through any trauma or unwanted situation. These kinds of situations always make impact on the subconscious mind of a person. In extreme cases the behavior and the thinking process gets changed thoroughly due to those experiences. In simple words the person gets involved in unethical and social abused things. Bust this thing depends on the type of bad experience.

Typical symptoms include episodes of re-experiencing trauma in the form of intrusive memories (reminiscences), dreams or nightmares, occurring against the backdrop of a chronic feeling of "stiffness" and emotional dullness, alienation from other people's lack of response to surroundings, anhedonia, and avoidance of activities and situations reminiscent of of the trauma. Typically, an individual is afraid and avoid what he recalls the original injury. Occasionally there are dramatic, sharp flash of fear, panic or aggression, triggered by stimuli that evoke unexpected memories of the trauma or the initial reaction to it. Usually there is a high state of autonomic excitability with increased vigilance, increased startle reaction and insomnia (Kaplan, 609).

With the above symptoms and signs are usually combined anxiety and depression, suicidal ideation is often a complicating factor may be excessive use of alcohol or drugs.

Other forms of severe stress (but not extreme) can seriously affect the individual but generally are not typical triggers posttraumatic stress disorder, such as job loss, divorce, academic failure etc.
