CRIME PREVENTION AND CONTROL

Strengths and Limitations of Ecological Approaches to Crime Prevention and Control

Abstract

The paper critically discusses about the strength and limitation of ecological approach for crime prevention. The ecological variation in crime, fear and delinquency of crime are being examined in this paper. In much of the ecologically oriented criminological theorizing, delinquency rate or crime rates are of interest primarily as the outcomes. This gives hope for preventing and controlling of delinquency and crime in the society. The human ecological theory actually facilities the investigating in the way where the social structure produces the convergence, hence it allows the illegal activities for feeding upon the legal activities for everyday life.

Strengths and Limitations of Ecological Approaches to Crime Prevention and Control

Introduction

The objective side of the crime constitutes a violation of environmental regulations for the design, location, construction, commissioning and operation of industrial, agricultural, scientific and other objects, entailed a significant change in background radiation, causing harm to human health, mass death of animals or other serious consequences. Violation of the rules of environmental protection can be accomplished by, both action and inaction. Environmental regulations are contained in the laws and regulations of special regulations (Sherman, 1992, pp 78-89).

The ecological variation in crime, fear and delinquency of crime are being examined in this paper. In much of the ecologically oriented criminological theorizing, delinquency rate or crime rates are of interest primarily as the outcomes. This gives hope for preventing and controlling of delinquency and crime in the society.

Discussion and Analysis

The Environmental crimes are mainly split into groups of similar crimes (poaching, illegal logging, illegal export of strategic raw materials abroad, forests, illegal export of animals and plants, soil and vegetation cover, the illegal use of mineral raw materials, import and disposal of highly dangerous toxic waste production and marketing of ingredients harmful to human food and other consumer goods, etc.), which is responsible for considering the environmental component, but on economic, selfish or violent reasons. The extent and distribution of crime in an area heavily dependent on the type of people who live or frequent, what might be called generically "users". In rural areas, people who frequent an area are often the same as the living, but in urban areas the number of people who frequent an area much larger than the number of inhabitants. By "users" means, then, in addition to the residents, people who work in a city without his residence. Such persons must be added while people who frequent an area, to domestic and foreign tourists, as well as "lovers of distractions," ie, those who move from peripheral areas of the city in search of distraction. For this reason some of the preventive measures for the general prevention of economic, selfish or violent crimes, as part address the environmental aspects (Hope, 1995, pp 45-67).
