Introduction to Criminology

Crime is the particular form of deviance. It is the violation of law. Laws are the most formal of norms. Deviance has relates to the violation of folkways and mores, whereas the term 'crime' has specifically referred to those behaviours that are violating the encoded in the criminal law. Therefore, punishment for crimes is commonly harsher and becomes more formalized than those who breaker of folkways and mores. Criminology is basically considered as the study of crime; the word was used the first time in year 1879 by French anthropologist, Topinard (Crowther, 2007). The general question that has been arising with criminology is that whether it is coming under the natural science such as biology, physics, and chemistry because social science like criminology is being scientific in the same sense.

Criminology should not be thought as the subject that has proceed in the linear progression from the early fumbling through different stages of increasing knowledge into sunlit upland understanding. Study suggests that there must be proper proportion between the punishment and crimes. According to (Crow, 1996), It seems to articulate that punishment should be fit for a crime that becomes a central feature under Criminal justice Act 1991. The idea of crime is the result of rational choice that based in the perceived risk being caught with rewards for getting away with it. According to the classical theorist, we must guard against the tradition recovery and does not keen to discover a new element added the criminology armoury that really originated in between last century.
