Critical role of leadership in managing quality preschool
Introduction
Man has always thirsted for education and self-improvement. The ability to think and to reason distinguishes man as superior to other species. From the Greeks to the Romans in Europe, to the Chinese and the Indians in the Asian subcontinent, all civilizations have displayed formal or informal educational structures that were the building blocks of their respective societies. Over time, many of these societies moved from an informal style of education to a more formal and generalized format over the period of the existence of any civilization.
Teachers, scholars and educators were always offered and given the respect due their higher education and knowledge. Before formalized education, individuals who were skilled in arts, sciences or crafts took in apprentices whom they personally trained and supervised till they felt that the apprentice had acquired all the knowledge that this “educator” could provide. If the student felt the need for additional education, he or she then moved on to another teacher for training in another field.
Formalized education arose when a group of skilled and knowledgeable individuals gathered together under one roof to provide knowledge to students. It was also determined that students, unlike their counterparts in days gone by, had to be provided with a well rounded curriculum to enable them to successfully gain knowledge which would enable to obtain gainful employment. Currently, in schools, teachers bear the heavy responsibility of educating and developing the young and preparing them mentally and socially to become successful, contributing members of society. It is a challenging job. It goes beyond just imparting knowledge. Teachers have to provide more than just book-education; their personal opinions and behaviors make a great impact of impressionable and young minds.

Quality educations also help to prepare children with learning difficulties with the skills and knowledge to function effectively when they start school.
Children who experience quality education become a better citizen for any community (Rodd, 2006). Research has shown that quality programmes impart the cognitive and social skills that consider being essential for school readiness (Rodd, 2006). Quality education forms the dynamic curriculum that prepares children with the dispositions, knowledge and skills for the real-world challenges (Rodd, 2006).
Today, leaders have to play a significant role in the centres to create a sense of belonging for all and make them connected. As such, they have to consciously look for ways and means to cultivate closeness in the work environment. A sense of community on the job not only provides the social support that nourishes the spirit, but also the impetus that makes individuals strive for optimal ...
