Cultural competence refers to the set of attitudes, practices, and policies that enables a person or agency to work well with people from differing cultural groups. (Au & Jordan, 1981)

Other related terms that have been used are cultural sensitivity, Trans-cultural skills, diversity competence, and multicultural expertise. (Mohatt & Erickson, 1981)
