Introduction

Human psychology has always been the centre of attention of all the psychologists and physiologists, and they have succeeded in developing a number of theories and theoretical perspectives that deal with the different aspects of the psychological processes. It is eminent to mention here that the theoretical perspectives have been prepared after significant thought and consideration and thus these represent all the aspects of human psychology, also focusing on the impact that different psychological conditions place on the overall psychology of human beings. The following paragraphs analyze the selected case in accordance with different theoretical perspectives and also highlight other theories and approaches that are used to explain the various divisions of human psychology:

Brief Case History

In order to complete this assignment, the case of Stan has been selected, in which the patient, Stan is unable to forget the incidences of his past and the haunting memoirs keep reminding him of the issues and problems that he encountered as a child. Stan had to face the vivid as well as harsh criticism from his father, who always used to compare Stan to his siblings, only to come to the conclusion that Stan cannot perform at par with his siblings (Corey, 2000). His father never used to treat him well and the discrimination caused Stan to become increasingly conscious of his performance and lack of achievements. During the counseling session with the psychologist, Stan is asked to let his feelings out and he is allowed to express himself freely, and thus the psychologists gets to know the exact feelings and sentiments of the patient: how badly he wanted to get the attention of his father and how hard he tired to come up to his expectations. However, no matter what he did and how badly he wanted to grab the attention of his father, he always failed to do so and ended up being ignored and humiliated. These feelings continued to grow and even as an adult, Stan felt week, timid and under-confident, thus unable to deal with the issues and problems of life effectively.

Conceptualization of the case from two different perspectives

Reality Therapy

The case can be seen in light of reality therapy, which says that human beings are social animals by nature and need relationship to survive in the society. The same applies in the case of Stan and he has been striving to get the attention of the most important figure in his childhood: his father. Thus, according to realty therapy perspective, Stan was in need of the love and care of his loved ones, but he failed to get that and thus fell victim to the psychological issue of underestimating himself and feeling weak and timid.
