Death penalty

Introduction

The Death Penalty can be argued for both right and wrong. Many people think it is right for the type of act the person has committed. Many people think it is wrong because the person who is being punished can learn from their mistakes. The death penalty can go either way. One reason the death penalty is good is the person who committed the crime gets what they deserve. If a person murders an innocent person than they should receive the same amount of punishment as he did to the innocent person. There is no reason why the murderer should get the same amount of punishment than the innocent person got. Another reason the Death Penalty Is good is because it stops people from making a wrong choice. If someone does something to have them sentenced to the Death Penalty that means they have not only affected themselves but have affected other people as well as their families. It's not right to have this in a society.

The Death Penalty is also a bad choice. People can learn from their mistakes. It may not be the greatest idea to take someone else's life for punishment. Its to harsh of a punishment they would have to learn. The death penalty can have a different solution. Instead of taking someone else life you can sentence them to life imprisonment. It would be easier for the person to learn their mistakes and never do it again. You would have to have much trust in that person. Killing another person is never a good solution.

Discussion

Analysis on both sides of death penalty

The death penalty can be argued both ways. This feud has been going on for a long time and will still be argued from years to come. The possibility of killing an innocent person is high and not unusual. Once a person is dead, nothing can be done if a mistake has been made. There is evidence that many mistakes have been made in sentencing people to death. Since 1973, at least 140 people have been released from death row with evidence of their innocence. So if more than 140 have been released, how many people died innocently? Sadly, there are not numbers for this question, and it highlights again the mistakes in the judicial system, and therefore gives a poignant argument that death penalty should be abolished. Despite this, many advocates of the death penalty argue that one innocent man can save the life of many other people due to deterring future murders and crime (Hugo, Pp. 56-67).

Furthermore they also believe that by executing a person, that person will never commit the crime again, as well as other potential murderers will think twice before killing owing to the fear of losing their own life. However, these advocates fail to recognize scientific studies that found convincing evidence that the death penalty does not deter crime more effectively than other punishments. For instance as an evidence we can take Hong Kong, ...
