2.2 Design, Fabrication, and Testing of Electrical System

Electrical system is considered to be very important for this project. Electrical system will ensure the decoy and will operate within a certain area in order to achieve life-like motion. There will be two main electrical circuits. The first circuit will be responsible to run dual motor and the second circuit will be a voltage regulator circuit to maintain a constant voltage level and supply it to the first circuit as well as to the microcontroller. The microcontroller will supply an electrical compass in Global Position System (GPS) module.

2.1.1 Design of Electrical System

There will be two main electrical circuits. The first circuit will be designed to run dual motors and the second circuit will be a voltage regulator circuit. The dual motor circuit will have two motors as its output. The inputs of this circuit will be a 9 volt power and two digit signal outputs from Arduino microcontroller. The function of this circuit will be to run the dual electrical motors in two motion patterns. The first motion will be random motion within a certain area and by reaching the set boundary the second motion will be initiated to return to the ranged area. The voltage regulator circuit is an important aspect in this project. The voltage regulator will be designed to maintain a constant voltage level and supply power to dual motor circuit and the microcontroller. The microcontroller will supply power to an electrical compass and a Global Position System (GPS) module.

2.1.2 Fabrication of Electrical System

The electrical components of the electrical system will share the same breadboard and Arduino microcontroller. The breadboard that will be used in this project is 840 Tie Point breadboard and the UNO Arduino microcontroller will be utilized. The fabrication of electrical system will be comprised on the following:

Fabrication of a Dual Motor Circuit.

Fabrication of a GPS Module.

Fabrication of an Electrical Compass.

Fabrication of Voltage Regulator Circuit.

The fabrication of dual motor circuit will require an UNO Arduino board, SN754410 Quad Half H-Bridge chip, 840 Tie Point Breadboard, jumper wires, and two DC motors. Also, the dual motor circuit will need two voltage sources. The first voltage source will be of 9 Volts DC to operate the dual motor and the UNO Arduino microcontroller. This can be obtained from the voltage regulator circuit directly. The second voltage source will be 5 Volts DC to run the Quad Half H-bridge chip. The 5 Volts will be gotten from the UNO Arduino microcontroller. Details of Quad Half H-bridge pins configuration will be given once the proposal has been approved.

The PMB-648 is a self-contained global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver, capable of providing accurate latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, and other information useful for navigation.
