ACTIVITY 4 - 4 RESEARCH PURPOSE STATEMENT DEVELOPMENT

Purpose Statement

Desktop virtualization allows Information Technology services for providing accessibility to the entire environment of information system through a remote device. For instance, a traditional desktop computer can be virtualized in order to store all the applications, data and programs on a centralized server. This enables user to access their desktop on multiple devices, including thin- client and smart phone devices.

Desktop virtualization technologies have been developed with the promise and surety of reducing the cost of hardware and support, increasing manageability and security and reducing the consumption of energy. Nevertheless, current trend of technologies have not acquired the level of maturity that enables a broader adaptability of environments of desktop virtualization commonly.

With all these positive points, Desktop Virtualization also brings some challenges and issues that are required to be addresses if the world wants to implement desktop virtualization effectively. Desktop virtualized computers under-utilize, management resources, energy resources and tying up capital. Furthermore, desktop virtualization constrains the experiences of users providing them with limited amount desktop user interface performance, specifically when there is any use of graphical illustrations and applications. It increases the cost of personal computers as the thin clients are expensive and need to be customized specially. Along with this, desktop virtualization requires highly expensive end user and end server components. The desktop virtualization is a complex setup and its administration requires especially skilled administrators that can manage the network effectively.

ACTIVITY 5 - DEVELOPMENT OF RESEARCH QUESTIONS

Research Questions

Research will based on following research questions:

What are the issues faced by the organizations that implement Desktop Virtualization?

Does Desktop Virtualization increase the challenges for computing resource management?

How does Desktop virtualization reduce costs of operations?

How can Desktop Virtualization be implemented effectively?

Hypothesis

H1: Desktop Virtualization has a negative impact on the computing resources management.

H2: Desktop Virtualization reduces the cost of operations.

Johnson, M., (2011), Desktop Virtualization: What You Need to Know for IT Operations Management, Emereo Pty Limited, 201 - 220

This book discussed about the concept of Desktop virtualization and explained it to have a separate environment for desktop of personal computer from physical monitoring machine which deals with the model of client-oriented server for computing. The author states that the model has the capability of storing the virtualized desktop on a centralized server, rather than storing on a remote client-oriented server. Therefore, while the user is working on the client desktop, all the data and application are operated from the centralized desktop. This helps the users in connecting their virtual machines to the server by using the desktop software. This book provides an in depth explanation over the real workings and drivers of desktop virtualization. It decreases the risk of investing time, technology and resources in ...
