DEVELOPING A PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO

Developing a Professional Portfolio

Developing a Professional Portfolio

Components

I am preparing the components of professional portfolio for the post of computer engineer.

Professional development refers to skills and knowledge attained for both personal development and career advancement. Professional development encompasses all types of facilitated learning opportunities, ranging from college degrees to formal coursework, conferences and informal learning opportunities situated in practice. (Golding, 2006)It has been described as intensive and collaborative, ideally incorporating an evaluative stage. (Jasper, 2006) There are a variety of approaches to professional development, including consultation, coaching, communities of practice, lesson study, mentoring, reflective supervision and technical assistance.

The portfolio is organised around a number of sections, which are designed to help me present evidence reflecting my professional effectiveness:

Best Learning Experience

My professional portfolio depicts that the best learning experience that I adhere is the project that I have done on payroll system using Access. This system is a reliable and practical tool for company's payroll processing requirements. I have learned how this system offers automated, fast and easy payroll processing and generation to help save time and money. Also how it is designed for easy installation and operation given its integrated system and large data storage capability. It is specialized to process and generate reports on employee loan and leave application and monitoring. (Speck, 2005)

Through this Iam able to:

Access - Access Payroll links seamlessly with every product in the Access financial system range. Integrating my payroll with my accounts introduces many additional benefits, including automatic salary expenditure updates to my Nominal Ledger and Project Costing records.

Microsoft Office - A secure, 2-way link with Microsoft Office enables me to work on my payroll data using the additional functionality offered by MS Word, Excel and Project. An optional write-back facility is used to pass changes (to non-statutory data) back into my Payroll system. This greatly reduces the time taken for a huge range of common administrative tasks.

Timesheet Applications - Timesheets from any application (including Access Project Costing) can be entered straight into Access Payroll, with no re-keying. This enables effortless pay calculation and consolidation by pay type.

Commitment

Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to optimise the application of existing and emerging technology.

A1

Maintain and extend a sound theoretical approach in enabling the introduction and exploitation of new and advancing technology and other relevant developments.

This could include an ability to:

Identify the limits of own personal knowledge and skills

Strive to extend own technological capability

Broaden and deepen own knowledge base through research and experimentation

A2

Engage in the creative and innovative development of engineering technology and continuous improvement systems.

This could include an ability to:

Establish user's needs

Assess marketing needs and contribute to marketing strategies

Identify constraints and exploit opportunities for the development and transfer of technology within own chosen field

Promote new applications when appropriate.

Secure the necessary intellectual property rights.

Develop and evaluate continuous improvements systems.
