Developmental Psychology

Introduction

Developmental Psychology basically serves as a scientific study framework that helps in understanding the range of changes that occur in human beings over the period of life time. The concept has its original associations with the study of infants and children. However with the passage of time the field has been expanded to take into consideration the aspects of adult development, adolescence, and even the complete life span. Three important steps that are considered at the time of evaluating these theories and analysing their practical implication to the life of a person includes the social, cultural as well as the socio-economic context. The issues that are highlighted under the umbrella of developmental psychology include the extent to which an individual is developed by gradually accumulating knowledge versus the stages of the development of life. The study also focuses on the extent to which the distinctive mental structures are present in a child by birth or the way they are learned with experiences. With the help of the reflective essay, one can easily understand the interaction that takes place between the personal characteristics, the behaviour of an individual, and the involvement of the environmental and social factors and thus can gain knowledge about the impact of all these elements on the personal development. This assignment is in the form of a reflective essay that has been prepared with an objective to apply two developmental theories to the aspect of my own adult life. The adult event that I have selected for this assignment is starting a new job and this event of my developmental adult life will be analysed in detail with the help of the psychological developmental theories presented by Piaget and Lawrence Kohlberg'.

Comprehending the implication of developmental theory in the phase of my adult life event is an interesting task as it provides with a prospect to better apprehend the psychological development theories. Taking all these issues into account, I have decided to imply Piaget and Kohlberg theory to my entry in the professional world, which is initiation of a new job. Professional environment provides a person with number of instances to justify his/her actions and compare ...
