Didactic literature as a literary genre

Traditionally it is recognized that the three major literary genres are the lyrics (v.), epic (v.), and the dramatic, whose purpose, eminently artistic, gives a privileged place in literary theory. But alongside them there are other genres in which the artistic purpose is to add another goal, usually practical. (Glaisyer & Pennell, 102-130) While modern tends to underestimate the literary value of the didactic, throughout the story is easy to find times when the genre has enjoyed singular estimation, and has even demanded for every literary work, some educational content that seemed to dignify it.
