Dilemma

Introduction

Dilemma can be defined as a problem that gives an individual the opportunity to choose between two alternatives however both the alternatives are equally unsatisfactory, for instance a country may decide to whether go for a war or not this will create a dilemma for the allies of the country. While making such decisions it is important to align with the ethical values that may pertain. Ethics are the moral values that help to distinguish between right and wrong, these are the moral code of conduct that allows individuals to take decisions based on their ethical judgment to ensure that the dilemma has been resolved ethically (www.slideshare.net). Social work is any activity that is designed to help people and to ensure that their needs are satisfied, which has now developed as a scientific field, the main purpose that social work tends to target is to bring social change that is positive. National Association of Social Workers (NASW) has been developed which states that social work is a profession which does not only intend to meet the needs of the individuals but simultaneously also works to promote social justice to ensure people are granted their rights fairly and also to bring social change (Murphy, 1997).

Ethical dilemmas do not only arise in the social work practices but also in businesses they need to ensure that their actions and decisions do not create any negative effect on the human lives and also on the society as a whole they have the corporate social responsibility to carry out their business activity that is based on the principles of the ethical code of conduct. Social workers are frequently involved practicing ethical dilemmas, for which they need to get familiar with the ethical code of conduct to ensure their decision making is based on the moral values (Bertotti, 2010).

Problem Statement

While making decisions social workers have to decide between alternatives that are ethically conflicting and complicated therefore it becomes difficult to make value judgments.
