A New Space for Music

Conveniently located in downtown Los Angeles, Walt Disney Concert Hall is one of the most acoustically sophisticated concert halls in the world. The design to build a world-class concert hall in the town was commenced in 1987, when Lillian B. Disney, the widow of Walt Disney, pledged $50 million to the Music Center. The County of Los Angeles supplied the land for the concert hall location and capital to investment the hall's parking garage. Construction of the garage started in 1992 and was accomplished in 1996. The Vision

In 1987, the late Lillian Disney made an initial gift of $50 million to build a world-class presentation venue as a gift to the people of Los Angeles and a tribute to Walt Disney's devotion to the arts. Since then, other presents and built up interest convey the Disney family's total contribution to over $100 million. The County of Los Angeles acquiesced to supply the land and important additional funding to investment Walt Disney Concert Hall's six-level subterranean parking garage.

In 1988, renowned architect Frank Gehry was chosen to conceive the convoluted, whose last form he revealed in 1991.
