Introduction

In today's workplace numerous find themselves in a tug of conflict between their individual and organizational values, both strolling an ethical tightrope particularly when worker and business values compete. With the supplemented complexity of an international business market, heritage dissimilarities amidst distinct assemblies of stakeholder often compete. Values are convictions of an individual or communal assembly in which he or she have an emotional buying into either for or contrary to something. Knowing one's individual and organizational values is significant and has a significant function in both individual and expert decision-making. The term workplace diversity, in the most usual sense, refers to the various demographic differences that comprise the employees of an organization. Diversity can refer to a number of demographic components, which typically include factors such as race, gender, age, and physical and mental ability. However, in today's work environment, diversity can also encompasses much more, including culture, background, national origin, sexual orientation, ethnic group, personality, managerial roles, learning style, and other factors.

Diversity Issues

Following are some of the major diversity issues prevailing in organizations.

Racism

Racism is a complex problem of our society. It cannot be characterized placed into certain class as it has various complications and lasting effects. However, it is apparent that the ethical values generated the social concern which in turn has to be handled through the means of politics. Blacks, Latinos, Hispanics and Asians face racial discrimination in workplace more than often (Cross, 2001). They get lower wages and rights as compared to the white individuals. Although there are still significant barriers to the advancement of colored people, progress has been made ??in the last three decades.

Discrimination against Women

One of the most important demographic changes in the U.S. for the past 30 years has been the participation of women in the labor market. Unfortunately, women's earnings have not matched this participation. A recent study states that the positions occupied by women have tripled since 1966 and by 31% since 1995 to 1998. The hiring of Carly Fiorina in the top job at Hewlett Packard, in an industry that has traditionally been dominated by men, is a good example of how times are changing. And 55% of employed women provide half or more of total income from their homes (Omi & Winant, 2004). However, women earn less than their male counterparts.
