Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Set in 1992, several years after the fallout caused by the "Terminal World War," which decimated much of the land. This radioactive dust that contaminated much of the land had not originated in any country and had not been foreseen, and yet had been extended to cover much of the globe. As a result, the United Nations encourage and encourage people to migrate to colonies off the ground to preserve the human race from the effects of radioactive dust produced by the war (Scott, 1982).  One incentive is that each family to decide to emigrate receives a tailor-made android servant. In the novel the term "android "is generally used to refer to biological composition of artificial beings -"Professional Android "as the book, but in modern science fiction, the term has come to mean a non-biological machines, for example: the "droid" from " Star Wars ".

Philip K. Dick treats here of a recurring theme of science fiction , that of differentiation and even opposition between man and machine. Such a subject is found both in the literature , for example with the Cycle of Robot Isaac Asimov , that film ( AI Artificial Intelligence ) or manga ( Ghost In The Shell ), but instead of a real confrontation , Philip K. Dick , through the main character in the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? trying to understand what can characterize human beings in a society marked by constant wars or selfishness.

In this novel, men and androids mingle so that it becomes difficult to distinguish from real people and their simulacra. The androids are devoid of emotion but the Nexus 6 will develop feelings yet (they feel the injustice of their situation, are bound together by affection and solidarity, etc.) While human beings (especially wife of Rick Deckard) do show that very little signs of affection towards each other. Thus, the "Mercerisme" (described as ...
