PEACE Domestic Violence Agency

Introduction

The willful and determine physical assault, sexual assault, intimidation and different behavior conducted against each other by perpetrated partner is known as Domestic Violence (McCue, 2008). It is considered as a wave that is affecting every individual in every region regardless of the nationality, sex, age, economic or education. Because of domestic violence, psychological trauma, physical injury or sometimes death of a person occurs and it is important to note that one women out of four experience domestic violence at least once in her life. It is estimated that more than 1.3 million women faces physical assault by their partner every year and more than 85% victims of domestic violence are women all over the world. There is also strong risk factor of transferring domestic violence to the next generation because children witnessing violence within their homes are more likely to abuse their partners after becoming adults (Flowers, 2000). it is a fact that around 35% to 45% of the people involved in violence of intimate partner are also likely to abuse their children therefore it has become extremely necessary to take prevent measures not only to save women, but also children suffering from domestic violence. The domestic violence in the US has been a major issue for several years and many organizations are working hard for the prevention of this problem (Love, 2006). Therefore, PEACE Domestic Violence Agency has decided to operate in the region of Portland so that domestic violence can be reduced in the city.

Literature Review

Problem Statement

Similar as many other communities all over the US, the city of Portland has been facing the issue of domestic violence for many years and authorities of this city are not able to take effective measures that can prevent domestic violence within the city. Since Portland is considered as a metropolitan city, it has been experiencing increased reports of youth and domestic violence, assault, spousal, and incident of road rape for the past five years. Different NGO's and local bodies are making efforts for the prevention of this issue, but more organizations and funds are required to ensure that women and children living in this city remain safe from domestic violence.

Organizational Mission

The meaning of PEACE is “Placer Extends A Caring Environment” for the families and this is the main purpose of the organization to give healthy and caring environment to the women and children living in different regions of the US. The organization strongly believes that regardless of religion, sex, age and occupation, and whether people belong to any gender, they deserve to live such a life that is free from violence. The organization was founded in 1974 as a hot line for rape crises and becomes a lifeline of safety within few years.
