Drug Control

Introduction

Drugs fall into one of three categories: legal, prescription, and illegal. They include, but are not limited to, the following substances: alcohol, cannabinoids (e.g., marijuana, hashish), cocaine, hallucinogens (e.g., LSD, mescaline), inhalants (e.g., toluene, acetone), opioids (e.g., heroin, morphine, and methadone), sedative hypnotics (e.g., barbiturates, nonbarbiturate sedatives, and benzodiazepines), stimulants (e.g., amphetamines, anorectic agents, preparations of Catha edulis, ecstasy), and tobacco. All drugs are categorized by the ability to change the consciousness, mood, senses, or thinking patterns of the user. (Spillane 2000) Legal drugs, like alcohol, cigarettes, and even caffeine, do not bring harmful effects when use is finite; however, when such drugs are taken in large proportions, they have potentially psychoactive and addictive effects.

Discussion

There is much debate about the distinction between drug use, drug abuse, addiction, and dependence. The terms are often relevant, although they have finely different implications in the context of public health, mental health, law, and the mass media. Here, drug use indicates neither the problematic nor habit-forming use of any substance (Musto 2002). Drug abuse results from the complex physiological and psychological interactions of the material, the individual, and social and environmental factors. It indicates to a pattern of self-destructive behavior of repeated use of drugs that fall outside the realm of accepted medical, despite negative health and social effects.

Use of drugs hits in the depths of history and dates back to about 5000 years. Since time immemorial the people who cultivate narcotic plants for the purposes of recreational or medical or social. But the beginnings of contemporary drug use, especially in the West began medical use of drugs, and doctors prescribe opiates as a treatment but the doctors wrote a book showing the mothers when and where to use the drug for the treatment of children. The ignorance of doctors, then the risks that could result from the addiction of these materials, use them widely for the treatment of many diseases and afflictions. Has expanded the use of drugs to be entered in each treatment so sedated children.

In the civil war in America had used morphine treatment in cases of so-called addiction to morphine at the time "satisfactory soldier." In 1898, produced by Bayer in Germany, a new narcotic on the grounds that it is less dangerous and this is the heroin, which turned out to be more serious addiction than morphine, which was a substitute. When doctors realized and the general public the risk of addiction the drug has spread so widely.

Impact of Drugs in a number of ways

Pharmacologists refer to substances that have an impact on thinking, feeling, mood, and perception as psychoactive. Humans have always intake of psychoactive substances. Higher organisms are medically hardwired to derive pleasure from the action of certain chemical substances. Psychoactive drugs, some powerfully so, activate pleasure centers of the brain, thereby potentiating continuing drug-taking behavior (Miller & Rollnick 2002). Drugs can thus directly have an impact on a person's mind mentally.
