The rocks are the result of a cycle rather complicated transformations, called geological cycle or, sometimes, geochemical cycling. Indeed, it is this cycle that we owe the composition of the crust and upper mantle.

The three sub components of geologic cycle are:

Training of relief: uniquely of mountain ranges, with all the accompanying phenomena, the whole constitutes the Orogeny.

Destruction of relief: caused by the action of external agents: the Glyptogenesis.

Production of new types of rock materials: from the debris originating from the glyptogenesis and incorporated materials from the mantle (Gallant, 2003).
