Eastern Michigan University

Eastern Michigan University is a comprehensive, coeducational public university in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The university is composed of eight members by a consultative board of directors, who is governor of Michigan for a term of year's term. This is Mid-American Conference School, and re-accredited by the North Central Association in 2001. Currently, EMU comprises five faculties: Arts and science, business, education, health and human services, technical and graduate schools.

History

The American university was founded in 1817 in Detroit, making it the oldest university west of the Appalachians. In 1837, she moved to Ann Arbor. A plot of 16 hectares had been reserved in the hope of welcoming a new capitol of state, but when Lansing was finally chosen as the capital of the State of Michigan, Ann Arbor, the municipality offered at this university. The original 16 acres became part of the current Central Campus. The first classes in Ann Arbor started in 1841 with seven students and two teachers.

The university was founded in 1849 as Michigan State Normal School, Normal School in Michigan and the first outside the original 13 colonies to create the first.
