Introduction

Children and adolescents with behavioral problems are a challenge for us as psychologists, we need to understand and approach. Possible causes of these disorders in order to initiate a treatment that allows these individuals reintegrate into family contexts, educational and social systems to which they belong (Kauffman, Lloyd, Hallahan, Astuto, 1995). The smaller the child, the more difficult is the diagnosis, as a feature of early childhood is that they are restless, impulsive and talk all the time without knowing whether or not they listen to instructions or limits that we adults want comply.

There are some mental health problems emotionally loaded causing difficulties in social adaptation. All these elements are of concern to parents and teachers who are upset the expected development in the subject through these issues (Kauffman, Lloyd, Hallahan, Astuto, 1995). It requires accurate diagnosis and medical treatment, psychological and / or psycho. With these treatments is not only to improve the situation of the subject in question but the people around them that could be affected by the behavior of the child or adolescent.

Emotional and behavioral disorders are characterized by early onset, a combination of overactive, poorly modulated behavior with marked inattention and lack of perseverance in carrying out any tasks. Behavioral characteristics manifest themselves in all situations and are constant in time interval (Kauffman, Lloyd, Hallahan, Astuto, 1995). Emotional and behavioral disorders usually appear in early adolescence. Their main feature is the lack of persistence in learning activities, including a tendency to move from one job to another without finishing any of them; excessive, but unproductive activity.

Biological or genetic factors almost certainly play an important role in the development of behavioral and emotional problems (Ninness, Glenn, Ellis, 1993). Studies have persistently shown a number of families that have children with psychological and behavioral problems; parents with psychopathology are much more likely than children without such problems, and from many studies that a significant role in children's temperament plays genetic factors. However, it is important to emphasize that the psychopathology of the parents accompanied by increased social stress, financial problems, problems in relationships between partners and inadequate child-rearing, i.e. all the environmental risk factors for the development of disorders. Therefore, the comparative roles of genes and environment isolation are difficult.

Significant source of risk are, and biological factors. For example, the prenatal influences, as the use of mother alcohol, drugs or tobacco during pregnancy, the most well-known biological factors. Although you cannot deny the importance of genetic and biological factors, it is important to stress, and the fact that many children exposed to biological risk factors related disorders and disorders do not develop (Ninness, Glenn, Ellis, 1993).
