Introduction

Electoral College has been very important institution for the political system of the American society. It was also devised as a method to elect the president of the state. However, people have raised questions on the relevancy and importance of this institution, to the current political situation. Critics say that it is a very old and traditional way of electing the head of the state; a different way must be devised in order to improve the effectiveness. It is important to understand how Electoral College came into existence and the functions by performed by the college. It has played its due role in maintaining the check. It is also a source of two party system which help the system to elect a president on fair basis. These aspects make the existence of Electoral College still very important for the political system of the state.

Discussion

This College was formed in accordance to the US constitution. There was debate on electing and working of the President. It was also discussed that whether bicameral legislation would be used or not. It meant that House would comprise of members on the basis of the population of a particular state elected accordingly (Gary Glenn, 2003). The delegates were discussing that the process for electing the president should be based through legislative sources or outside source. Executive dependent upon the reason the legislature would make the president a person controlled by Congress. Election of president directly from the population was not a problem, but they wanted a better organized system through which they can elect the president of the state.
