ABSTRACT

Solar thermal power system is an alternative option for power generation industry using renewable energy resources. Compared to conventional fossil fuel system, the solar thermal power system generates an equivalent amount of power with considerably lower greenhouse gas emission. With more than 30 years of operation, the solar thermal power system is proven as a successful technology for both small domestic heating to large scale electrical power generation industry. This dissertation involves the potential evaluation of solar thermal power system for a small community in Thailand. A detailed design of solar thermal power system is separated into two main parts; the design of solar thermal system and the design of power generation system. A community in Thailand is selected as to monitoring electrical consumption in order to obtain a target electrical generation capacity for the designed system. The detailed solar insulation of the community is also included in the design of solar thermal power system. At the end, financial analysis of the proposed system is performed to obtain an optimum design of the system.
