Emergency Services Administration

An administration of rescue services and emergency services is one of the most important tasks of the government agencies that are established to ensure health and public safety through addressing various kinds of emergencies. There are some well defined government agencies existing at state level in United States of America that are mainly working on addressing specific kinds of emergencies that are most commonly found in the locality(Slade, 2012).

The role of these agencies is to develop and engage in prevention and awareness programs that can help the public in detection, avoidance and in reporting of emergencies in an effective way. It is extremely important for a state to have rescue or emergency departments placed in such areas that is accessible by the general public (Petrini, 2010). The emergency services should be given to people in time so that they can get their property and lives safe from any mishaps or disasters.

Major Functions of Emergency Service functions

There are three main emergency service functions that are found in any state.

Police (Rescue)

Fire Department (Fire)

Emergency Medical Service (Ambulance)

All the emergency service providing organizations have separate mission. there are one or more emergency telephone numbers that are dedicated and reserved for important emergency calls such as 911 is used in United States and 999 is used in United Kingdom (McKay, 2011). There are some countries in which every emergency service has its own emergency number.

Objective of the Emergency Services

The main objective of the emergency services is to work in a team so that people and assets would be saved from any big disaster that can be caused in the cases of earthquakes, floods, harsh weather conditions (McCaig, 2009). The emergency service providing organizations should have all the required resources that would be beneficial in managing the risks that can be faced while handling any disastrous situation. The emergency services providing staff should be having all those skills and should be capable of facing critical situations with confidence. The Department of Homeland Security is a government organization that is monitoring the nationwide emergency issues and it owns complete authority to approve or disapprove the emergency services providing organization's working framework. The coast guard organizations have to keep watch over the coastal waters to assist ships and people in danger and to ensure their security (Kraska, 2009). The US Coast Guard should ensure the public in maintaining external and internal security of homeland. Some of the objectives of coast guard stations are as following:
