Leadership development can be defined to be any activity that results in enhancing the qualities of leaderships inside individuals or organizations. It refers to the expansion in the capacity of individuals to perform with leadership roles in business organizations.

Qualities of leaders

Leadership is the ability of an individual to make others follow him willingly. Leaders are needed by all the organizations at all levels. A leaders needs to communicate his or her idea to the subordinates in a way that they are able to buy it. Some of the qualities that are needed by a leader are:

Integrity: this refers to integrating the outward action with the inner value. A leader who has integrity will always be the same eon outside as he is on the inside. A leader who exhibits these qualities can be trusted because he or she never departs from the inner values no matter how expeditious the situation appears to be. A leader needs to build trust among the followers and integrity is the way to achieve this means.

Dedication: This means that the leader spends whatever time and energy is needed to achieve the tasks. A leader needs to instill inspiration among the employees through his or her personal example by taking all the steps necessary to accomplish the tasks that will help in realization of the goals. By setting up an example of themselves, the leaders can motivate the employees to work beyond their working hours and instill in them the urge to work harder

Openness: Leaders need to be open to listen to any new idea that comes around. Excellent leaders always listen to the ideas of others and accept new ways that are the ideas of others instead of insisting to continue with their own ideas, leaders are able to valid trust and respect among the employees by being open

Creativity: Leaders need to be creative and think differently. This allows them to lead the employees in new direction

Fairness: Leaders need to deal with their followers with fairness and justification. Before coming to any conclusion, the leader must list to everyone. Jumping to judgments based on incomplete evidence must be avoided. If the leader can make the people feel that they have been treated with fairness, then they are sure to respond with loyalty and dedication
